Noratel Open Autotransformer IP00 type SU Open single-phase autotransformer designed and tested according to EN61558-2-13, protected against dust, humidity and corrosion through complete resin impregnation. Insulation class I. Compact design, fixed installation, simple and easy mounting in cabinets, switchboards, panels or installation directly on engine/equipment.
Autotransformers are transformers with a common winding in which primary and secondary are not galvanically/electrically separated. This transformer construction is considerable lighter and smaller than a similar isolating transformer.
Some typical Applications are:
– Speed control of ventilation fans
– Soft start of larger 3-phase motors
– Easy transforming of voltage up and down
Autotransformers are not able to eliminate earth faults, all earth fault problems will be propagated through the transformer, resulting in a considerable risk to safety. The use of autotransformers is therefore not permitted in ships and medical installations. Custom designed models on request.
Even though the transformer is protected against involuntary contact with live parts it has to be mounted in cover. Special designed metal plate covers (SUK) can be supplied.
Noratel Open Autotransformer IP00 Applications:
Autotransformers are often used in speed control installations on motors or fans, e.g. kitchen fans and ventilation fans in houses. Also used to transform voltage up or down. Autotransformers are not able to eliminate earth faults. The use of auto-transformers is therefore not permitted in ships and medical installations.
